Xôi, also known as sticky rice or glutinous rice, is the most popular street food in Vietnam. This humble food is made from a variety of different ingredients, but it’s most commonly made with mung beans, bean paste, and coconut milk. It’s wrapped in banana leaves and steamed over hot coals until the rice becomes soft and chewy.

Xôi is commonly served with grilled meats like pork ribs or chicken wings because these meats are cooked over coals like xôi itself. You’ll also find xôi served with grilled shrimp or squid if you’re lucky enough to find one of the few places that serves seafood dishes for breakfast (which we highly recommend).

You’ll find many variations of xôi throughout Vietnam: some versions are topped with sugar or other sweeteners while others aren’t sweet at all! But no matter what variation you try out first, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this simple yet delicious dish!

4. Bun Cha

As an enthusiastic food lover, I must say that Vietnam’s street food scene is a paradise for culinary adventurers. The Banh Mi, with its crispy baguette, tangy pickled vegetables, and tantalizing meat or tofu options, is a true delight for the taste buds. I personally love exploring the lesser-known street food gems like the Bánh Cuốn, delicate rice flour crepes filled with a savory mixture of minced pork, mushrooms, and shallots. And don’t get me started on Nem Nuong, the grilled pork sausages wrapped in rice paper and served with an array of flavorful dipping sauces. It’s truly a feast for the senses.

I’m a huge fan of Vietnamese street food and I have to say, you’ve picked some great ones. My favorite is the banh mi. I love how they’re made with a crusty baguette instead of bread. The fillings are so good too and if it has good pate too, I can eat it everyday literally!

I’ve been to Vietnam for work and had some delicious street food there. I remember that one time when I went to a market and saw these guys making fresh spring rolls. They were so fast and their hands were so nimble. It was amazing! The spring rolls were so good too!

I’m surprised that they didn’t include the most famous street food of all: Banh Trang Tron

I had this roll when I went last, I wish I knew what it was called. It is similar to the one pictured but it was not seafood, it had some sort of beef in it perhaps. I never have been able to find out what it was called!
