This is great advice, but I just want to warn you: don’t try the cat soup in Hanoi. I had it last summer and I’ve been having nightmares ever since. I’m just kidding of course.

Maybe it is just me but I have never traveled alone. I feel like if I go somewhere, I want to have someone I know close by. It would be different if I knew someone local to the area though.

I’ve taken three solo trips to Vietnam and this is a great list! I love tip #7 – I met some of the coolest, most interesting people just by sitting down at a local restaurant.

One addition I would make to your list: be sure to check out the local wildlife! The national parks in Vietnam are so beautiful and full of amazing animals.

My favorite thing about this country is that you can get lost in the hustle and bustle of city life, or you can retreat into the quiet and peacefulness of the wilderness. The beaches in Phong Nha are so relaxing and quiet, and the jungles surrounding Ho Chi Minh City are so green and beautiful.

I highly recommend visiting the Hanoi Old Quarter—it’s a neighborhood full of life and energy that will leave you feeling refreshed. And if you’re in Hanoi, don’t miss out on Cat Ba Island! This little island has everything—canopy walks, hiking trails, snorkeling… it’s also great for relaxing on the beach.

If you have time, I also recommend taking a boat trip down the Mekong Delta to see some wildlife up close.
