Has hip-hop in the west influence Vietnamese music?

It seems as though I am seeing more and more of this, especially with rappers. They have the same style and simular lyrics as western hip hop did in the late '90s. Do you think it has influenced their music and the trend will continue to grow?

I would think so, especially in the last 10 years. I think right now they are at the top of the 1990's in terms of trends and we will see them crossover to the trends seen in the early to mid 2000's.

I believe that it somewhat started in America. The whole hip-hop culture and style was taken from the US to Vietnam several years after the war. I remember reading about it on some history site.

@hasangie Do you have a link to that? I am interested in reading about it. I mean if this is the case, it would explain why they are about 20 years behind with hip-hop trends. I just hope they don't start pushing to bad aspects of the culture.

@askaboutme From what I know, Vietnamese music in general is about 20+ years or so behind. From my understanding, Vietnam closed its doors after the war and the only music that was pretty much allowed was folk, classical or anything that promoted the government. It didn't start becoming what it is today due to the influence of the west, with foreign Vietnamese entertainment such as Paris by Night (Thuy Nga) and similar programs; in fact some of Vietnam's biggest stars like Tóc Tiên got their start there.

I am sure it has.

I think trends in music, fashion, culture, etc. all have a way of traveling and migrating around the world. We see this the most in places like the US, UK, and Canada where they are considered melting pot countries.

Music travels and inspires people. This has always been the case. It doesn't matter the genre. There are huge fans of artists themselves in Japan who do country music. The kind you would here in Texas, US.
