I have spent time in both and like Hanoi better but keep in mind, I am not a big city person.
I also did not spend much time in the cities. I typically will spend a day or two and then go to a more nature-sided area.
@weenie Having visited both cities, I found that Saigon had more of a bustling energy that I enjoyed, but Hanoi had a unique charm and character that made it stand out.
Personally, I prefer Saigon over Hanoi. It’s just more modern and western and you don’t have to deal with all the bs that comes with being traditional. I think most young people would agree.
Both are amazing! I wouldn’t have noticed the difference had I not read this. It seems like they both offer some amazing things so to me, both are worth visiting at least once.
I think the biggest difference between Hanoi and Saigon is that while they both have a lot to offer, they appeal to different kinds of travelers.
Hanoi is definitely more of a cultural experience. It has more of an edge and you can get more bang for your buck with the food there. If you’re looking for something more “authentic,” then Hanoi is probably better for you.
Saigon, on the other hand, has a lot of great sights and activities but it’s also much more touristy. If that doesn’t bother you then it’s definitely worth checking out because there are some really cool things to see there!
