I want to get a savings going for a trip but I am not sure where to start. Right now, most of my money is tied up in bills and basic needs, so much so, I seldom have much left after each pay. I want to get a savings going to I can make sure I can take a trip to Vietnam next year with some friends.

You just have to see where you can cut back on your spending habits. How often do you eat out every week? Do you have bills in terms of entertainment you can go without for a while such as Hulu or Netflix?

Take a good two weeks and write down everything you spend money on. I do mean everything from gas and food, to buying items like pens and paper. Just track everything. Same with your bills. Once you do that, see where you can cut back and make adjustments. Set a goal for putting away $100 to $200 a month.

@homeg1rl I have done this before and it was a huge help. I found I was overspending over $100 a month on stuff I did not need! I ended up canceling a few subscriptions and cutting back on some food items and was able to save $300 a month for my last trip.

I agree about tracking your habits. That would be the first step. Do this and see what you end up with. See where your spending habits could be improved.

You can do micro-investing as well and it can work out for you but you have to know enough about investing for you to turn a profit in a matter for a few months.
