I know some people travel for the holiday season. They either go out of town for vacations or they go out of town to be with family. I have never traveled around this time but I will be for the first time. Since I moved further away from family, I will have to travel a few hours to be with them. I was considering just taking a flight but it would be cheaper to drive.

Thankfully, not really. I just live a 20 minute drive away from where my family gathers for the holidays. It is easy to just get in my car and go. Not a big deal and no need for planning in advance unless there is a snow storm.

Yeah but it is not heavy traveling. I only have to make about a 45 minute drive our to my aunt's house for Christmas. We do Christmas Eve with a few friends and my parents all of which live close by. We take turns hosting it and this year my sister is doing it. She lives 3 minutes from me.

Which holiday ??? If it is Xmas/NY, no big problem, but is it is Têt (22 January this year), then all means of transportation are full a few days before and after, especially flights, so, if you intend to fly, BOOK NOW

I don't travel during the holiday season. I don't do planes or anything. I did once years ago and it was a nightmare. I don't go on any trips from November 15th until January 15th.

The problem with Têt is that many people travel, mostly from big cities to their family town or village, so, especially in Hanoi, many many things - restaurants, shops, etc. - are closed for at least a week, without mentioning those which practice "Tet prices", that is one-and-half to 2 times the normal prices. Moreover, more and more Viet having money, if they do not go to their family place, they go to famous tourist places such as Halong Bay, Tam Coc, Sapa or Hoi An, which are then overcrowded. That is why I always "pack out of Vietnam " for Têt (Laos or Cambodia, this year Siem Reap and the fantastic Angkor Tmples;.. for the FIFTH time

@Larsay I hear you!

I'm originally from Hanoi, and I have family in the countryside. I always have to travel to visit them during Tet, but it's never been a problem. The city is so much quieter this time of year, and it's actually kind of nice to be able to get around without running into thousands of people on the streets.

I also agree that Tet prices can be a bit ridiculous

My parents will be going to Vietnam soon in three weeks. They are going for Tet festival and to meet relatives they haven't seen pre Covid.
