Theft is rare but it happens. Making use of a safe is a great tip. I always bring a camera with me and they are not cheap cameras so I always keep it around my neck or in a safe.

@kikobeep I have heard that it is most common in taxis where people are ripped off paying extra in fair charges. It is not very likely for someone to just walk up to you and mug you.

I love these tips, and I have been looking to go to Vietnam! I think the first one is a great idea, I would love to know how it goes if you try it.

Another one that might be useful is that you can get around very easily in Vietnam by taking a bus. The buses are cheap and convenient, but you should make sure you have enough cash on hand before getting on the bus because they don't take credit cards or debit cards.

I am also planning on traveling with my family, so I think any of these would work well for us—especially the tip about using an app called TripAdvisor to find your hotel.

I'm in the same boat. I've been to Vietnam and it was an amazing trip. I went with my girlfriend, but we didn't have enough time to explore all of it.

I think the best way to go is by bus. The roads are decent and you can stop at all the places you want to visit. If you have a car, you'll have more freedom, but if you don't know much about driving in Asia, then it might be better to hire someone who knows how to drive on these roads (or just rent a car with a driver).

I would recommend using a travel agent to get a better deal on airfare, hotels, and car rentals.
