When it comes to trying new food in foreign places, it always comes with a risk. It can be as simple as your body not being used to the oils or the cooking methods. It would be terrible to be out and have to use the bathroom! What are some ways to avoid upsetting your stomach with new foreign foods?

Yeah, that would not be good!

I guess one of the biggest tips I can give someone concerned is to avoid market and street food. Stick to eating from actual stores and restaurants. You will cut your chances down by 80% just doing that.

Stick to foods you know. As Zero mentioned, avoid street foods. Those are where most people run into these issues. Sometimes the food is not fully clean or undercooked and because the locals are used to this, they are immune to it but visitors are not.

Keep ginger root handy. It is probably easiest to travel with it in tea form. It is strong enough to treat all sorts of stomach issues, even salmonella.

Just stick to foods you know, avoid the street food, and keep something handy to help soothe an upset stomach be it tea or supplements.

Most people want to try new foods when they travel and everyone is a bit different. Some people can eat anything and be fine, others have sensitive stomachs. I would say anything you eat, just eat a small bit of it and wait an hour or two. If you seem to feel fine, you should be okay to eat more of the same food. Ask for samples when it is available.
