What do you think about this Vietnamese article saying the V-pop equivalent of the big 3 K-pop companies ?

The Vietnamese V-pop company WePro Entertainment is the V-pop equivalent of the South Korean K-pop company YG Entertainment.

The Vietnamese V-pop company 6th Sense Entertainment is the V-pop equivalent of the South Korean K-pop company SM Entertainment.

The Vietnamese V-pop company M-TP Entertainment is the V-pop equivalent of the South Korean K-pop company JYP Entertainment.

Nếu Vpop cũng có Big 3, 'ông trùm' nào xứng đáng được gọi tên? :

I think it's an interesting idea, but I wonder if they're missing some companies that are more equivalent to the K-pop "Big Three" than these three.

For example, I would argue that SpaceSpeakers is most similar to YG Entertainment. But maybe SpaceSpeakers aren't as big as those 3 already mentioned.

@thanggalang Why do you think that SpaceSpeakers is most similar to YG Entertainment ?

I always thought that St.319 Entertainment was a company as big as 6th Sense Entertainment so I expected them to cite St.319 Entertainment but they didn't cite St.319 Entertainment but instead cited 6th Sense Entertainment.

So isn't St.319 Entertainment as big as 6th Sense Entertainment ?

@rockman I feel as though SpaceSpeakers got the bad boy image down that YG had with G-Dragon and Big Bang.

As for St. 319, I'd argue that their impact on the industry is bigger than 6th sense ent. Every artist they pumped out are like big names today. AMEE, MIN and ERIK. Their least popular is actually MONSTAR but one can argue it's because they're a boy band and bands are unlucky in Vietnam. I hope St. 319 have a new solo artist in their pipeline.

They got the recipe down for making big solo artists.

@thanggalang Now St.319 Entertainment has only Amee as their only V-pop singer if I am not wrong ? Do you know which V-pop singers are still working at WePro Entertainment ?

@rockman I only know about WePro because Son Tung M-TP debut with them. Yeah, AMEE is their main artist but they also have MONSTAR.

@thanggalang Monstar disbanded in 2021 and they even had a final goodbye music video :

có hẹn với thanh xuân - MONSTAR | official music video :

This is why I was asking if St.319 Entertainment has any other V-pop singers besides Amee since the disbandment of Monstar in 2021.

@rockman Wow, I thought just one of the members left or something. Damn that sucks, but I bet ST.319 has plans to bring in a new artist. Kind of lonely just to have AMEE.

@thanggalang One of my hypothesis is that St.319 Entertainment disbanded Monstar because one the reason might be that they would prefer to concentrate their investment on only Amee because she is way more popular than Monstar.

One of my hypothesis is that St.319 Entertainment would try this economic model with only 1 singer per company because a lot of Vietnamese singers are self-employed or created a company with only one singer which is themself.

For example :

GOM Entertainment created by Chi Pu and has only 1 singer which is herself.

The Little Prince Entertainment created by Vũ Cát Tường and has only 1 singer which is herself.

I think there are a lot of comparisons that can be made. Pop music is something that sounds very simular in most areas of the world.

lol who ever wrote this article has little understanding about Kpop. None of these Vpop companies are even close to SM, YG and JYP. They are probably closer to a small korean company by standard.

@uni5fan99 you are right about this because Kpop is like 90 times bigger than Vpop compared on Google Trends. SM made $582 million dollars in 2021. Even the largest Vpop music labels probably makes like $5-10 million a year. My guess is that the article is just  comparing which companies take up the most in their own market.

@thanggalang Yes Kpop companies are mega corporations that are vastly ahead of anything in Vietnam. Maybe only the vietnamese govt can rival them lol. Sorry to say this, but it's the truth and reality. The vietnamese music industry is still in developing stage and I think it would take a decade before we see the true potential of it. Now it's just riding on trends and making meme songs. As for vietnamese companies, I feeling it's going the opposite way. Vpop artists are making their own self-employed agency than signing to a external company.
