Do you own, rent, or lease?

Curious to see what everyone has in terms of housing. It seems like most people around my age are renters. Some own but very few. I don't know anyone that leases. I rent a house myself. It is a duplex home so I share the house with someone else that lives on the opposite side.

I am a renter, unfortunately. I live in a condo/apartment of sorts. I split the cost with two roommates. The place is fairly large which is great but we have no yard which sucks.

I guess you can say I lease. But it isn't called that. It is a "rent to own" property so some of my rent is going toward an optional down-payment if I choose to buy the house after 5 years.

Technically, none? I am not paying rent where I live but I do not own the house. It is a family member's home that was not being used. There were intentions on selling it but it was not fully remodeled. The entire upstairs is unusable but I have access to a bedroom and full bath on the main floor which is all I need. The kitchen and living areas are both fine. I also have basement space.

I own. Well, I am paying off a house that my husband and I had purchased. So I guess in a sense, I don't own it yet? lol

I planned on buying in 2021 but it has been pushed back again, and again. I don't know when I will be buying. I am renting again. I moved back home with my parents in 2020 as I thought I would be buying a house early 2021 but this was prior to COVID. I started rented again in October.

Renting. I wish I owned. I ended up losing my first house when I lost my job. I had to turn it over to the bank and file for bankruptcy. It was a mess. I was way too young to be buying a house. I did not know how to budget for it.

I was close to buying but decided to back out at the last minute which is a good thing. All the money myself and my partner had, well a lot of it had to be used for medical bills for one of our cats :(
