How healthy is your diet?

I often ask this to people and their response is almost always "not that bad" and then proceed to go eat at McDonald's so I have to wonder if people are even aware of how poor their diets are. I by no means am a healthy eater. I try to eat eggs several times a week and make use of vegetables in at least one meal a day but I eat a lot of crackers, chips, and sweets which really defeats the purpose!

I don't think it is healthy but I do eat healthy food. Like you, I just eat too many junky items which kind of ruins it. I am working on cutting back on sugar for a start.

I think I eat better than most but not as healthy as I could be eating if that makes sense. I will more often than not opt for something that is healthier but I still enjoy sweets and fast food a few times a week.

@soulie Same for me. I think I too eat better than a lot of people but my diet is par from perfect. I remember reading if you aim to eat 70% healthy foods in your diet, you are eating better than 90% of the US population!

Well, today I had some fried chicken with rice for dinner. Not ideal. Not exactly healthy. But I eat like this once, maybe twice a week. I am working on cutting out soda from my diet for good. It has been hard.

I eat too much fast food and not enough vegetables. I know that. I am noticing now more as I get older. When I was younger, I ate vegetables at every meal. We used to fight over eating them in fact and my mom would get mad at us.

What are the benefits of eating healthy?

A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition. It protects you against many chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Eating a variety of foods and consuming less salt, sugars and saturated and industrially-produced trans-fats, are essential for healthy diet.

I tend to eat better/healthier when I am on vacation. Usually I do a 2 to 4 week trip and I always lose weight. I know I am not eating that great and could do better. I am working on it though.

@photastic Same for me. I eat less as well. I guess this is down to being busier. I eat junk when I am sitting around and have nothing going on.
