I am trying to stock my pantry just in case the stuff with China and Russia pushes us into a war. I think it is a good idea in general for people to be prepared for stuff like this or even just bad weather.

I want to make a list of items that last a long time. Anyone know of the best ones?

As far as I know, honey (when raw and stored in glass) lasts forever. Rice can last up to 18 years if you store it right. Typically you need to freeze it to get it to last THAT long but it should hold in an air-tight container for a good 10 years without freezing.

Liquor and beans both never expire. Assuming the beans are dry. Canned goods will last a long time though it carries. Peanutbutter, when unopened, can last several years but once it is open only lasts about 3 months.

Dried pasta will last several years. I think I read upward of 10 years but you need to make sure it is in an airtight container. You can't leave it in boxes or bags.

Anything jarred or canned will have a longer self-life by default. I think if you get cans recently stocked from the warehouse, you will likely find they have a shelf life of 5 or more years. Most things are fine when unopened for 2 to 4 years after the expired date as well.

Oats, sugar, salt, dried spices, ghee, and soy sauce all have long shelf lives.

Assuming you store them properly, they can easily last 20 years.

@1988tq I forgot about ghee! That is actually one of the best butter alternatives because it does not require refrigeration and lasts very long!
