If you're going to backpack through Vietnam, I think it's important to keep in mind that you can't just go with the flow.

You have to plan ahead and make sure you know where you're going and how much things are going to cost. The last thing you want is to get stuck on a train or bus ride that's going nowhere because you didn't do your research!

As mentioned, planning is super important as is the time you go and what locations you plan on backpacking through. It can be a lot of fun but if you don't have any sense of direction, it will ruin your trip!

@caphekitty I respectfully disagree with the notion that planning is the only important aspect of backpacking through Vietnam on a budget, as the people you meet and the experiences you have along the way are just as crucial to a fulfilling trip.

I'm so excited to try this! I'm going to Vietnam next year and I know how expensive it can be.

I love this post! It's really helpful, especially if you're not sure where to start or what to expect. I'm thinking about going to Vietnam in the next few months, and I definitely have a lot of questions like: "How do I get a visa? How much should I budget for food?" but also some more general ones like "What should I pack?" or "How do I stay safe while traveling alone?"

I think this is going to be super helpful for me (and hopefully others) as they plan their trip.

I have never been backpacking in any country let alone Vietnam but it sounds like an amazing adventure. I feel like I would get too overwhelmed. I like to plan everything out vs going with the flow. I need more control in my life.

I would recommend packing light and taking advantage of the country's many transportation options.

save" by packing light and taking only what they need. This will also allow them to save on transportation costs. Another cost-saving option for backpackers is to buy local products. This will save them money on food and other items, as well as on the cost of imported goods.
