I have never done this but I am considering it just to save time and money. I am thinking of planning a trip to Vietnam for next October. I am just not sure if it is wise to book and plan everything for an entire year ahead. Has anyone done that here before? I would love some tips.

I personally would never plan ahead that far. The most I have done was 6 months. Things happen too often and plans get changed. Who knows if there will be issues with storms this time next year and you can be out all that money.

What exactly would you be planning? Flights and hotel stay? I think in most cases, those are fine to do in advance but you have to make sure that you have a window for cancelation.

For booking flights, I think this is fine to do. I have done it. But I always wait till close to my time to go to book a hotel. You can get a refund on plane tickets a lot easier than hotel refunds.

Yes, booking the flights isn't an issue. If you could find a hotel that offers cancelation a month or two ahead of time, that works out too. Just be sure to only book what you have to.

The furthest out I have booked something has been 4 months. I personally wouldn't go past 6 months myself. You run the risk of things going wrong after that point and I just don't like the idea of planning something that far ahead.

If you are going to plan ahead, just check to make sure you have a cancelation window. Some will allow you to cancel at any time up until 3 months prior to the stay, flight, etc.
