Learning the language and trying the street food are definitely important steps to experiencing Vietnam like a local. I remember stumbling upon a small alleyway market while exploring Hanoi, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip, I had some of the best food I've ever tasted, and got to interact with locals in a way I never would have if I stuck to tourist areas.

@MonkeyFuzzy92 I completely agree that immersing yourself in the local culture is the best way to truly experience Vietnam. One of my favorite memories was taking a cooking class with a local family in Ho Chi Minh City, not only did I learn how to make delicious Vietnamese dishes, but I also got to hear their stories and learn about their daily lives.

Oh, great! So, all I have to do is stay in a random stranger's home, eat food from questionable street vendors, attempt to speak a language I don't know, and venture into unknown rural areas, what could possibly go wrong?

@stevienguyen I heard that Vietnamese coffee is a must-try, but is it true that it's so strong that it could wake the dead?
