I saw this thread on Reddit the other day and wanted to see if this is something people are aware of:

https://www.reddit.com/r/VietNam/comments/z00xdg/possible_bar_scam_going_to_vietnam_soon_and/

I guess people looking to meet others while in Vietnam are getting scammed through Tinder. Have you heard of this? Is this a growing problem?

So... I am not entirely sure I am understanding this. These people would bait tourists so the clubs would charge them more for drinks??

I think it could end up becoming a growing trend which is why some people are telling non-locals to not use Tinder while in Vietnam. I don't mind paying extra but I would not want to be getting ripped off without knowing it.

I think it is a good rule of thumb to not go on dates while visiting other countries. It is one thing if you met someone online and are going there specifically to be with them but signing up for dating apps while on a trip just seems desperate.

This happens in a lot of countries so I am not surprised it is happening in Vietnam. I think you have to worry more in other countries thought as I have heard of people being jumped.

@haitay I was going to mention this. I have heard much worse. It is still a bit dirty but you can't expect much going on Tinder in the first place. It is an app for cheap and easy hookups.

I am sure it is a thing. Most places have scams like this. They likely target tourists because they can easily get away with charging more and no one gets hurt from it.

Tinder scams are all over the world and this has to be one of the most tame ones I have read. Leave it to Vietnam! haha that being said, you shouldn't be on Tinder if you are just visiting Vietnam anyways. That is silly.

Tinder itself is a scam. I have had friends complain about dates through the app where there are just people looking for free meals, places to crash, or they try to rob you. Why would you ever go on Tinder in another country let alone your own? lol

@nhimxuxu For real. I always tell my friends this. They go on dates with shallow people and expect to find their soulmate or something. Why would you go on Tinder in another country!! That is just such a dumb thing to do.

Scams on Tinder happen all around the world. This is not a Vietnamese thing. It is a Tinder thing. Best advice I could give you, if you actually want to meet men or women in Vietnam, don't use Tinder.
