There is a growing trend with people taking breaks from social media platforms. These include Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram among a few others. A lot of people are deleting the apps and just tapping out. Some do it for a week, others do it for a month or even several months. Do you think these are some benefits to doing this?

I think it does, yeah. So many young people these days suffer from depression and anxiety, most of which stems from spending too much time on social platforms that make them feel bad about themselves.

My sister has completely quit all social platforms and has been off of them now for 5 months. She has managed to lose weight, find an amazing partner, and she is getting promoted at work. She said social media was holding her back and keeping her in a negative mindset 24/7.

I slowed down using social media in 2020 when I realized I was spending way too much time on the platforms. Now I only use them a few times a week just to catch up and see what is happening. It is too draining to be on them every day.

I started taking breaks a few years ago. Anytime I start to feel more worried or stressed, I remove the apps from my phone and block them on my computer so I can't be tempted to visit them without adjusting everything which I am too lazy to do most days.

Funny you mentioned this. I stopped using Twitter and TikTok last week and have not missed it. I actually feel like I am less stressed out already. Always seeing constant political stuff and people arguing, then you have all the mindless videos... I don't need it!
