I read about Vung Tau years back and have seen some people showcase their trips on some travel blogs I read but it seems like it is still very much a secret vacation spot. Not many people seem to travel here compared to other places. Might be worth going before it blows up and everyone is making plans to go!

The reason not many foreign tourists go to Vung Tau (Viet people do !) is that the reputation of Phu Quoc is overwhelming. There is also the fact that many descriptions mention that, because of the off-shore crude-oil platform, the beaches are polluted; I did not go there for years because of that, I finally went and found out that the beaches are impeccable, the scenery very beautiful and there is a lot to do and visit.

Vung Tau is actually a pretty cool beach destination that not many people know about. There are a ton of things to do there, like checking out the beautiful beaches, exploring the nearby mountains, trying out some delicious seafood, and even visiting the giant Jesus statue on top of the hill. It's definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a more off-the-beaten-path beach getaway. By the way, you've got great taste in travel destinations!

I don't know if I have ever even heard of this city! What areas is it close to that are more well known? I am shocked because I tend to know most areas when beautiful beaches are involved!

Vung Tau sounds like one of those areas that is going to blow up over night. I can't remember which spot it was, but in the '90s, it became such a huge tourist area that it became too expensive for the average traveling to afford.

Vung Tau was always said to be dirty. I never went. I never wanted to go. I don't like dirty beaches. That being said, I know this is far from the truth now. I think some people spread rumors to keep places under wraps and out of tourist spotlights.

It's a shame when rumors overshadow the truth. Vung Tau has so much more than what people say. Clear views, delicious seafood, and peaceful vibes await you. Give it a chance, and you might just find your new favorite beach destination.

Many hotels to chose from, expensive ! The best small inexpensive I have visited is the VICTORY, facing the beach at the entrance of Vung Tau (149 Thuy Van St) 0253 523 060  [email protected]. In 3-star also facing teh ebach, teh larger Thang Muoi (151 Thauy Van St - 0254 38 52 665  [email protected]

Amazing restaurant on the sea after the cable-car station, close to the pier of the Saigon speed-boats) : GANH HAO (fantastic seafood)
