Vietnam reopens but why go to Vietnam during the rainy season?

Vietnam reopened recently and many of my friends were quick to book their plane ticket to Vietnam or for the Summer. It's like no one told them it's rainy season. I can't talk them out of it because they already booked their ticket.

Just looking at Saigon's weather this week, it's raining 6 days out of the week. My guess is that they couldn't wait any longer. I'll plan my trip after the rainy season but I really hope Vietnam doesn't close down again.

I think people just want to get away and travel again. COVID ruined a lot of plans. As much as I would like to go, I am waiting it out. I will be looking to plan a trip late 2022 or early 2023.

People are longing to travel like mentioned above.

I think younger travelers aren't put off by the rain so much. Just getting away is enough of a reason to go!

@douknowhat I totally agree! I know that I've been feeling the travel bug lately, and Vietnam is definitely high on the list of places I'd like to go. But I want my trip to be near perfect so I'll wait until after the rainy season.

I thought rainy season typically runs from May through September. But you're right about it raining so much right now.

How bad is the rainy season? I have only gone twice and it wasn't in the rainy season but I have been other places that rained a lot and it didn't ruin my trip!

@haitay I've been to Vietnam four times, and they're all different. It's one of those places where you can't know what it will be like until you get there. For example, I went in August of 2013 and it rained every single day my entire visit. It wasn't the kind of rain that stops for a break...it was constant.

If you go, I would recommend bringing an umbrella with you as well as some waterproof shoes. And if you're not staying in a hotel, bring a towel too! You might want to dry off after walking around in the rain all day.

@arian You're right, there are probably some people who enjoy rainy days. I think rainy days are also good because they force you to be more mindful of your surroundings. What you think is a small puddle could turn out to be a raging river. It's all about the journey!

I guess this really comes down to people. I know some people who won't go on VK if there is ANY chance of rain while others don't mind it at all.

@weenie I agree, it comes down to the people. I think it's all about having a good time. Sure, rain is annoying and can put a damper on your day, but if you're there with friends who are willing to make the best of it and go with it, then it can still be fun.
